HELEN NORMAN, PHOTOGRAPHER AND OWNER OF STAR BRIGHT FARM, MD

Stories

In the words of Walt Whitman, “We all need beauty as well as bread, places to play in where nature can heal, cheer and give strength to the body and soul alike." This quote encapsulates Star Bright Farm’s dedication to the simple and yet most nourishing pleasures of life. Our two dawson linens seem to fit right in at Helen Norman’s inviting, idyllic, 130-acre Organic Farm, with weathered wood and stone structures, ponds and fields. Alongside Art Director James Dunilinson and Stylist Beverley Hyde,  Norman brought to life the moments one might have only dreamt existed in a fairytale. And not to mention Star Bright is host to a Farm market, Farm-to-table community suppers, workshops hosted by various artisans and even yoga in a sunlight-soaked barn. There is a sense of serenity and yet sensorial richness to Norman's work; the feeling of a cool breeze and the smell of freshly cut lavender are palpable in these images, inviting us to slow down and recognize the simple beauty in our daily lives and in the world all around us.

Where is home for you?

White Hall, Maryland on a 130 acre Organic herb and vegetable farm.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Determined, self motivated, dogged (I'm an Aries)

What is your creative process like?

Exciting.  I love the creative challenge of seeing it in my head and pulling all the elements together.  Choosing the right team to collaborate with and seeing the images come to life.

What inspires you?

Nature

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Trust you own instincts.

What are you dreaming of?

I have so many dreams.  I wish I had more years ahead of me, and not so many behind me!  I dream of only taking pictures of our farm and what we are about, and what we have created and built for the last 25 years. There is endless beauty here.
