EDDA PETURSDOTTIR, MODEL AND PHOTOGRAPHER LIVING IN BERLIN, GERMANY

Stories

Edda Petursdottir is a woman of many trades and a creator of beauty both in front of and behind the camera. Petursdottir hails from Iceland but has lived in New York, Paris and London before rooting herself with in Berlin. There she works as a model, and photographer. Petursdottir’s images never feel posed, inspiring a sense of grace and ease. We love the sun kissed photos she took highlighting our chalk robe, leaving us with a sense of breezy serenity.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Friendly, humble, ambitious.

How have your travels informed your work?

You learn so much from traveling, meeting new people, trying new food, discovering new music genres.  It's all about taking it all in and letting it inspire you.

What is your creative process like?

I get inspired by the surroundings I'm in, by the people that I hang out with, the magazines and books I read.  Pinterest is helpful as well!

Where is home for you?

Iceland is where I'm from, my whole family is still there.  NYC also feels like home as I lived there for 17 years.  I recently moved to Berlin with my boyfriend and its really starting to feel like home!

What is like to work on both sides of the camera?

It is super fun.  I am more aware on set while modeling, taking notes and I ask a lot of questions.  But to be behind the camera is great as I have full control of the shoot which I have been wanting for years.  It is a really fun process from start to finish.  From production, the creative preparation to editing its not just a click of a button, there is so much more to it which I love.

What inspires you?
All of my friends, I have so many talented people around me and learn a lot from them.  But being in a new city always inspires me too.

What advice would you offer to your younger self?

Don’t be afraid of trying new things. Don’t be self conscious and worry about what other people think of you...just be yourself!

What are you dreaming of?
A career in photography!  And I guess just to be happy and healthy. Hopefully start a family soon and keep being creative and motivated.
