"I make art and take pictures", Addie has a unique and beautiful perspective, and when I first approached her about doing a story for TWO DAWSON, we wanted to approach it from a slightly different point of view rather than the traditional one. I visited her in brooklyn, we sat down over a cup of tea and brainstormed. Addie picked her favorite pieces and then her story unfolded. WHAT DOES HOME MEAN TO YOU?
Home, for me, is where things take shape. It's a learning space where I am constantly becoming. The objects I have, books, art, and music, by proxy describe me, and help to untangle the strands of my experience. Sometimes it's the only place I don't want to be, other times it's sacrosanct. But mostly, I think my home is a backdrop against which I view myself.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TIME OF DAY TO BE AT HOME?
Its pretty dreamy in the morning in my apartment.
IF YOU WERE A SUPER HERO WHAT WOULD BE YOUR FAVORITE POWER?
Being invisible would be interesting. Think of all the eavesdropping you could do. You could save humanity, one secretly overhead conversation at a time!
WHICH FIVE PEOPLE LIVING OR DEAD WOULD BE AT YOUR DREAM DINNER PARTY?
I would ask one close friend to invite 4 people who I don't know, to dinner. It could be awful ... or boring, but there's a chance it could be my dream dinner party without me even knowing it.
ITS YOUR LAST MEAL ON EARTH, YOU CAN HAVE ANYTHING YOUR HEART DESIRES, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO EAT?
This is a hard question to answer. Is it my last meal on earth because I'm about to die? If so, I would probably want to try something I've never eaten before as it will be my last chance to have a new experience. But if it's my last meal on earth because I'm going to another planet, I would want super fresh earthly delights like oysters, and maybe a vibrant salad of some kind of edible flowers in it, and an elaborate charcuterie plate with cheeses and olives. (Sheepishly noting how closely this dream dinner resembles a dinner i could have anytime in Brooklyn).
IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE ELSE WHERE WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Fantasizing about where else I want to live was my favorite past time for a while.. Always some version of a simple, charming, natural life in a humble town with interesting, thoughtful people. Really, my dream location is much like the town I grew up in, in Northern California. But given what's happening in the world, now I think it would be more worthwhile to put myself in a less comfortable place. The times I've been the least comfortable, have often been the most transformative.
